The two people who were shot and killed in the Monterey County community of Moss Landing early Monday morning were young teenagers, officials announced Tuesday.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as 15-year-old Marco Antonio Perez and 13-year-old Nathaniel Flores, both of Salinas.
The teens were shot shortly before 2 a.m. on Jetty Road, which sits between Moss Landing State Beach and Elkhorn Slough. They died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Two other people were injured in the shooting.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
“This is a tragic incident that has resulted in the loss of two lives,” Monterey County Sheriff Tina M. Nieto said in a statement. “Our detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding what occurred. We ask anyone who may have information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and assist with this investigation.”
