INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The acclaimed African Children’s Choir will perform at Grace Church Camby on November 11th as part of their “Light Your World” tour, offering the community a free evening of music and inspiration.
The performance features children ages 9-12 from across Africa and is open to the public with a freewill offering.
Tour leader Daniel Tamale, who was himself a choir member during the 2007-2008 season, spoke with WISH-TV about the organization’s 42-year history and its impact. Over that time, the choir has helped educate more than 54,000 children through college — giving young people facing significant challenges a path forward.
For the children selected, joining the choir means more than performing. It means access to education, mentorship, and a future. “It gives them a future that really is well aligned because they have dreams and desires for their lives,” Tamale said.
Tamale, who now serves as a spokesperson and mentor figure — what the choir calls an “uncle” — said being a voice for the children brings him deep fulfillment. “Being able to be their voice brings much joy and fulfillment to me,” he said.
The “Light Your World” show blends traditional African music with gospel favorites. Admission is free, though attendees are encouraged to bring a love offering to support the choir’s educational mission.
