An argument over room temperature at a West Side nursing home may have been the cause behind a deadly shooting Sunday, according to a San Antonio Police Department report.
Manuel Espinoza, 50, was arrested shortly after the shooting Sunday afternoon.
The report said he was visiting his mother at the Westover Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center at the time of the shooting, which happened before 5 p.m.
It says Liceaga shared a room at the facility with Espinoza’s mother, and the two women had an ongoing dispute about the temperature of the room.
After the shooting, the report said a staff member told police she heard an argument coming from the room.
The worker said she did not understand what was being said because the parties were speaking Spanish.
At some point after that, other employees heard a loud noise, which apparently was a gunshot.
The report says one worker found Liceaga in her room, bleeding and tried to administer first aid, but she died from her wound.
Witnesses were able to give police a description of Espinoza, who left the property after the shooting, the report says.
Police found him about a quarter mile away from the nursing home and arrested him on a murder charge.
At the facility Tuesday morning, a security guard could be seen patrolling the property.
Relatives of patients at the nursing home told KSAT 12 News, off camera, that the guard was a new addition put in place after the shooting.
A sign posted to the front door, saying that weapons are not permitted, was also visible.
Due to the security officer standing guard on the property, KSAT 12 News reached out to the nursing home by phone, hoping to get a comment from management.
A receptionist who answered the call said they had no comment.
Court records show Espinoza has a violent criminal history that includes previous arrests for assault and family violence.
