Funniest/Most Insightful Comments Of The Week At Techdirt

Posted

This week, our first place winner on the insightful side is the first of several comments about Trump’s voting fraud squad proudly announcing the arrest of… 28 people in California. It’s an anonymous comment summing up their attitude:

Republicans just want election fraud. That’s it.

In second place, it’s a double-winning comment that also took second place over on the funny side. Once again it’s an anonymous comment, this time about Ofcom ramping up the Online Safety Act after all the evidence that it isn’t working:

In other words, the Online Safety Act has one, and only one, genuinely good provision: it requires Ofcom to report the data showing that it doesn’t work.

For editor’s choice on the insightful side, we start out with Stephen T. Stone and one more comment about Ofcom, this time answering the question about why they’re doing all this:

Simplest answer is often the best: They want to use this as a pretext for an Internet censorship endeavour in the vein of China’s Great Firewall.

Next, it’s Rocky with another comment about the 28 voter fraud arrests:

Which also means if they can only find 28 erroneously registered people out 23 million it is proof that the system works because no system is perfect and a error rate of 1.22e-6 is so incredibly low it is statistically insignificant. I expected it to be much much higher, because as you say, voters screw up and voters are people and people screw up daily.

I’m just waiting for the idiots to show up ranting about “see, I told you!” which means they think they are perfect and have never ever in their life made a mistake which is utter bullshit. But that’s they way of the fools, confidently ignorant of their own shortcomings.

Over on the funny side, our first place winner is David with a reply to another comment aptly describing the rate of voter fraud as “one percent of one percent of one percent”:

That’s already three percent, enough to swing an election.

And don’t tell me that isn’t how percentages work, or you won’t get to enjoy 2000% percent reductions in drug prices.

We’ve already had the second-place double-winner above, so we’ll move on to editor’s choice, starting out with one more anonymous comment about the fraud arrests. This time, it’s about the government’s little trick of lumping together “illegal registration or voting” as a single stat:

Hundreds of millions of Americans have committed murder or drank water.

Finally, we’ve got an anonymous comment about RFK Jr. personally stepping in to approve peptide use over the FDA’s objections:

My peptides bring all the Übermenschen to the yard,
And they’re like “OH MY GOD WHERE DID ALL THESE TUMORS COME FROM?”

That’s all for this week, folks!
